Union Pacific 4-8-4 will visit the railroad’s New Mexico lines in November to commemorate the state’s centennial. The train will cross the former Rock Island “Golden State Route,” then the former Southern Pacific “Sunset Route.”

The Union Pacific 844 is housed at the Cheyenne, Wyoming Roadhouse. The 1944 Alco built 4-8-4 is  the only one of 45 Northern type steam locomotives built for the Union Pacific Railroad still operating today.

The Union Pacific 844  New Mexico November schedule is as follows:

Please lend along the 2012 schedule. We’d like to plan now for a vacation that will include seeing UP 844. We live in New Jersey, so this is not a casual matter. Thanks.

  4. Chris Markis says:

You came through New Mexico hitting all the back towns. Therefore the newspapers didn’t cover your up coming visit in the 2 largest cities in New Mexico (Albuquerque & Las Cruces), which you avoided visiting. I only found out about your “sneak through” from a friend when you hit Phoenix. It was a true disappointment not knowing you were coming through. Would like to get on your mailing list for the upcoming years. :-)
