Florida’s Orange Blossom Cannonball steam engine No. 2 returns Memorial Day weekend
Florida’s one of a kind Orange Blossom Cannonball steam engine No. 2 has been transported back to the Reader Railroad headquarters in Arkansas for its annual inspection. The inspection was expected to take 6 to 7 weeks to complete. Tavares, Eustis & Gulf Railroad assured its fans that safety was their number one priority in everything they do.
Orange Blossom Cannonball No. 2
Under the regulations of the Federal Railroad Administration, the Orange Blossom Cannonball steam locomotive #2 must undergo a thorough inspection every 31 operating days as well as an annual inspection within 12 calendar months.
Orange Blossom excursion trains will continue to operate using a diesel locomotive in the absence of the steam locomotive.
Known as America’s # 1 Movie Train, the Orange Blossom Cannonball’s No. 2 steam engine is scheduled to return to service again on the Tavares, Eustis & Gulf Railroad in time for the Memorial Day weekend, beginning on Friday, May 25, 2012.

This article has some incorrect information. As the press release said, the #2 will not return by memorial day but the train will be running. The TE&G actually started running today with leased power. Trains will continue to operate on Saturdays and Sundays with diesel locomotives.

It will return to passenger service on the railroad on Saturday, Sept. 15.
