Steam and diesel locomotives from around the country will be on display for visitors to tour the cabs, take photos, watch demonstrations and much more. Schwiebert Riverfront Park in Rock Island, Illinois will host Train Festival 2011, July 21-24. Displays of huge model train layouts will be on exhibit from around the country and railroad vendors from around the globe will be selling unique, one-of-a-kind train items and mementos that you won’t find anywhere else, including the historic Nebraska Zephyr. The Zephyr will operate between Rock Island and Bureau, Ill., on July 24. Accompanying the Zephyr will be the museum’s Chicago & North Western F7 and its Chicago, Burlington & Quincy SW7. All the equipment will be displayed for visitors over the course of the four-day event.
Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 steam locomotive No. 765 is scheduled to appear and pull excursions during Train Festival 2011. No. 765 will be open for cab tours while on display for you to talk with the crew and find out what one of these monsters of the rails is like. Bring plenty of film and be ready to take lots of pictures!
