The Virginia Museum of Transportation is offering a chartered bus trip to the North Carolina Transportation Museum (NCTM) in Spencer, NC, for an up-close tour of the restoration of the Norfolk & Western Class J 611 Steam Passenger Locomotive.
The day trip to the N&W 611 restoration includes charter bus transportation to and from the NCTM, a box lunch, admission to the NCTM, a train ride on the museum’s grounds and a presentation and tour of 611’s restoration by a member of the Fire Up 611! Committee.
Participants will be allowed in the restoration bay to see 611 up close and to take pictures of this historic engine.
The charter bus will begin boarding at the VMT at 7 am on Feb 20, 2015 and leave promptly at 7:30 am, returning the same day by 6 pm. Unfortunately, the bus is not handicap accessible. Travel to Spencer is approximately 2.5 hours. The bus will not make stops between Roanoke and Spencer. There is a restroom on the bus.

A limited number of seats are available. Cost is $50 for Museum Members and $55 for non-members. Children under the age of 18 are required to travel with an adult.
