I gave this book to my Husband for Christmas. He is an avid Rail fan. He is enjoying it very much, planning his next road trip. One thing as his wife that would be a great addition, would be to add things a wife or girlfriend would like to do to the list of things to do at the locations.

This book is everything it was advertised to be. A handy size that you can take with you in a camera bag or backpack. Not every entry has map, though, so it's up to you to find it on your own. I suppose most people have cell phones that do this for you now, so it might not be an issue for you. It certainly helps that the authors know the busy times for trains, which will save you waiting around for long periods of time for one to show up. It only covers the U.S. though, so train watchers in Canada will need to find another book. But if you're travelling to the U.S., as I am soon, this will come in mighty handy!

This is a handy book, if you have 20/20 eyesight or a microscope. Overall the font is too small and the print on the maps is tiny, very tiny. I can see trying to make a guide book you can take in the field. But as we have crossed into the 2010's, solving this problem by making things really small instead of an eBook version is the wrong way to go. Many of the train photos are too dark and some, like that for San Antonio, are not very good.

Still, IF you can see what is in here it does give an adequate to good descriptions of where to go to see trains. It also gives you an idea of what to look for and even tips about ticks if you are crossing through wooded areas to get your views. It would have been good to also mark on the maps with colored dots some of the best places to view the action. The inclusion of the local radio frequencies for scanners is a redeeming factor.

It's a very nice try and it's useful. But the presentation is hurt by the size and presentation factors.

There is nothing in Northern New England. And so many beautiful spots in Arizona and California are not mentioned. Check the internet instead.

The book is a great tool to have if you're specifically looking for hotspots around the country. If you're an avid railfan, then you'd already know some of these places by heart, and probably know better spots then whats outlined in the book, but if you're traveling to different states, and just want to know which city or place has the best train viewing opportunities, this book helps a lot. Highly recommend this!

I bought this book as I'm shortly off to the USA and to be honest I was a bit disappointed with it initially as my 'wish list' for a book like this wasn't really adequately covered.
You will find the information in here very useful if you ARE going to the HOT spots.
When you consider the size of this book, it'll fit in your pocket, it does pack in a lot of information.
The maps given for each hot spot will certainly help and extra information will help with the areas concerned.
I think this book will prove it's worth so it's a recommended from me.
