Sit back and enjoy the changing countryside as you  parallel the shoreline of Lake Superior to historic Two Harbors, Minnesota, pulled by the Pacific class Soo Line 2719  steam locomotive.

The Two Harbors trains run Friday, Saturday and Sunday and are diesel excursions except for the weekends listed below when the #2719  is in operation. This is a six – hour round-trip scenic train excursion up the North Shore to Two Harbors that includes a layover.

The two-hour layover for lunch includes a FREE shuttle bus to take you around to the various restaurants and attractions in Two Harbors.  Snacks and beverages for sale are provided on the train.  The cars are a mixture of old and new, opened window and air conditioning.

Two Harbors is a historic railroad community. This Great Lakes port has a Canadian National yard and several working ore docks. Most trips average at least a 50/50 chance to see a Great Lakes freighter taking on product  (taconite pellets).

Soo Line 2719 is a steam locomotive that may not be as widely known as Union Pacific 844 or 3985, Southern Pacific 4449, Nickel Plate 765, or many of the “big” locomotives operating today. It hasn’t been out on mainline

Our August-like weather continues this month continues and provided a fantastic day for chasing 2719 up the shore. The LSRM/NSSR put together an excellent steam-era train with SP&S 66, DM&IR W-24 and DM&IR 33.
