Colorado’s Royal Gorge Route Railroad will begin the holiday season with this years first Santa Express Train scheduled to begin on Nov. 18. The railroad is expecting a large turnout this year. It anticipates carrying more than 20,000 passengers, a 6,000-passenger increase over last year.
The Santa Express train ride will run every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 6 p.m., from November 18 to November 27. From December 2 to December 26, the train will operate every evening at 6 p.m., except Christmas Day. The train will also run at 12:30 p.m. every Saturday in December through the 24th. Classes of service include coach, Vista Dome, and first class.
The train travels the former Denver & Rio Grande main line through the 1,000-foot-deep Royal Gorge of the Arkansas River. Powering the train are two former Chicago & North Western F7A units and an ex-Alaska Railroad F7B, all painted in gold and silver Rio Grande passenger train colors.
