Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) has announced they will be welcoming the return of the historic 2-8-4 Berkshire steam engine Nickel Plate Road  No. 765  to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad during the month of September along with numerous events and activities all month long for everyone to enjoy.

The Nickel Plate Road No. 765 locomotive is a high-stepping, fourteen wheeled magnificent machine that stands 15 feet tall, weighs 404 tons and goes over 60 miles per hour. It has been restored to the way it looked and sounded when it was built by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1944. This engine is the largest operating steam locomotive east of the Mississippi, and is the pride of the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society.

An exclusive wine-tasting excursion, a two-hour round trip where patrons will sample five unique wines, will kick off the offering of events on September 9th. Other events being offered include, two-hour round trips through Cuyahoga Valley National Park on September 10, 11, 24 and 25, tours of CVSR’s Fitzwater Maintenance Yard, an evening photo shoot on September 17th, a weekend of Total Track Tours September 17 and 18th, and a Dinner Train on September 23rd.

“CVSR is excited to again be working with the crew of the NKP 765 in bringing Steam in the Valley once again. This locomotive is so incredibly impressive – if you aren’t awed by the power of a steam engine prior to seeing this machine, you most certainly will be after seeing it! It is amazing!” commented Kelly Steele-Moore, Director of Marketing for the railroad.

A complete listing of events, including the regular scenic schedule and Bike Aboard! which will be running amid the Steam events, as well as the ability to purchase tickets, is on CVSR’s website:www.CVSR.com.

NKP #765 will also be pulling fall excursions train rides during the month of October in Michigan.
