October is the perfect time to view Northeast Pennsylvania’s finest fall foliage and beautiful scenery.  One of the best ways to view this beautiful array of colors is relaxing aboard a steam or diesel passenger train traveling through beautiful fall scenery in the nearby Pocono Mountains.

The Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley Chapter of the NRHS, which leases the former Moscow passenger station and freight house, will offer light refreshments for sale during the train’s layover.

Moscow excursion tickets are at $24.00 for adults 16 to 61, $22.00 for seniors 62 and older, and $17.00 for children age 6 to 15. Children 5 and younger require a “no-charge” ticket on all excursions.

A special diesel-powered excursion to Gouldsboro, Pa., is planned for Oct. 7. The Coolbaugh Township Historical Association is planning a “Great Gatsby” theme at the station, with costumed 1920’s era characters and music inside the former passenger station. The station features a small museum that interprets the past life and experiences of Gouldsboro’s development. This excursion will also include a brief stop at Tobyhanna on the return trip.

Departure: Steamtown at 11:00 a.m., with an expected 3:30 p.m. return. Ticket prices for the “Great Gatsby” excursion are $34.00 for adults 16 to 61, $29.00 for seniors 62 and older, and $22.00 for children aged 6-15.

A fall foliage diesel excursion to Tobyhanna is scheduled for Oct. 20. Upon arrival at Tobyhanna station, Lackawanna Heritage Valley Ambassador Dominic Keating will offer a tour of a historic mill that was built as a wagon factory in 1871. The facility also served the Tobyhanna region as a silk mill and later as a machine shop. The mill is in the process of being converted into a classic car museum.

Departure : Scranton  at 11:00 a.m., with an expected 3:00 p.m. return. Ticket prices are $34.00 for adults 16 to 61, $29.00 for seniors 62 and older, and $22.00 for children aged 6-15. All fall foliage excursion fares include the Park Entrance Fee.
